Join us for a wonderful afternoon and light refreshments as Dorothy Jett-Carter will eloquently read excerpts from her book Kente Cloth and Apricot Brandy – A Love Story and will do a book signing.
Dorothy reads to us of her love, travels, and loss. Kente Cloth and Apricot Brandy is the story of a retired couple who fulfill a lifelong dream of traveling to West Africa together. They fall in love with the small fishing village of Elmina, Ghana, its people, and the expatriate community and decide to live there. They return home and while eagerly making plans for relocating the husband dies suddenly. After death, he returns, to visit with his wife, give sometimes unwanted advice, and even gets involved in his own memorial. The protagonist’s wife tells the story through a series of memoirs that are engaging, funny, sad, romantic, and at times gut-wrenching. Dorothy Jett-Carter is an award-winning textile and jewelry artist whose work has been shown and sold nationally at such diverse locations as the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D. C. and The Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, Michigan. Her published writings have included numerous training manuals for Fortune 500 companies on diversity awareness, harassment prevention and maintaining a respectful workplace. Most included plays and short stories. She has also written articles on the creative process which have been published throughout the U.S. As a mature African American woman, her creative journey now brings her to her first novel – A piercing cultural perspective on love, death, grief and continuing life’s journey.
